Located in Jackson County, IL, Grand Tower is a small city with fewer than 630 residents. This town was named after Tower Rock, a famous landmark island found in the Mississippi River. Perry County, MO is immediately south of the city, and this piece of land is called Grand Tower Island. The only road connection on the island ends in Grand Tower. This community consists of 1.25 square miles of total area, all of which consists of land, and historically, it is known for being an early settlement of river pirates.

Despite being a small city, there are a few notable attractions located in Grand Tower. The Devil’s Backbone Park provides outdoor recreation to visitors and residents, offering camping, picnic facilities, and playgrounds. The Mississippi River Museum is located in the area, and book lovers might like to spend some time at the Grand Tower Public Library. Some nearby communities are also home to notable attractions, including Tower Rock Winery and East Perry Pub in in Altenburg, Missouri.

Grand Tower is home to four distinct seasons throughout the course of the year, so climate controls are needed for both hot and cold weather. During the winter, thermostat readings reach an average high of 34 degrees in January, the coldest month of the year. However, overnight lows will fall below the freezing point. Without a heat pump or furnace in place to keep pipes and plumbing from freezing, homeowners may be faced with some pretty hefty repair bills.

Summers in Grand Tower are often hot and humid. High temperatures into the 90s are common, and severe weather with tornadoes occurs quite frequently. In order to enjoy the summer months while also staying safe, residents will need to take a break from the outdoor conditions by retreating to a cool place. Central air conditioning can do just that, and by having these systems serviced by an HVAC professional during the spring, residents can feel confident that the systems will work well when needed.
