About De Soto, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

The Village of De Soto is located in Jackson County, Illinois, and as of 2000 there were approximately 1,700 residents in the community. It is named after Hernando De Soto, the person responsible for discovering the Mississippi River. Much of this community was destroyed in 1925 during the Great Tri-State Tornado, and 69 people in De Soto lost their lives. De Soto is located about 7.5 miles northeast of Murphysboro and 6 miles north of Carbondale.

De Soto is a small community, but there are a few notable destinations found here. Specialty shops include Ken’s Antiques & Reproductions, while residents in need of a new look might like to book a service at Nikki’s Beauty Shop or Mick’s Barber Shop. There are also unique restaurants located in the community, including Maria's Texmex Grill and Tom’s Place.

Whether you are traveling through De Soto or are intending to move to the area, it is important to know what you can expect in terms of the weather. Snowstorms are common during the winter, and most nights the low temperature will fall below the freezing point. When precipitation and freezing temperatures occur at the same time, dangerous driving conditions can occur, so residents often choose to stay indoors where they have access to a heat pump or furnace to keep them warm.

After the cold winter months, summers in De Soto can feature weather extremes of a different variety. High temperatures usually reach the mid-80s, although temperatures that exceed 90 degrees also occur several days each season. The area is also extremely humid, making it feel even warmer. Most residents will invest in central air conditioning units to stay comfortable throughout this season, and having this system serviced during the spring could be beneficial in keeping utility costs affordable throughout the hot summer months.
